A baby who is under or overtired with raised cortisol levels will simply have a difficult time sleeping no matter what.  Offering babies the optimal amount of day sleep by following age appropriate awake windows is one of the first steps in helping babies lengthen their stretches of sleep overnight. Keeping 2 naps for as long as possible is super im Keeping 2 naps for as long as possible is super important for your little ones growth and development.  When your little one starts refusing the afternoon nap, it's best to try reducing the morning nap before transitioning to one nap a day.  Dropping to one nap too soon will likely cause frequent overnight wake ups. Remember when dropping to one nap a day as close to 18 months as possible move your morning nap in increments of 15 minutes until you are at the desired 12:30-1pm nap time.
